You’d be surprised where the next bottom line boost could turn up.
For officers at Missouri’s St. Louis County Jail, it was stuffed behind the tissue dispenser in the prisoner booking restroom. A jail employee found $55,000 in $50 and $100 bills when the dispenser became dislodged during a routine cleaning.
Prison officials are baffled — not only was the restroom in a secure location of the facility, but the funds would’ve had to come from an incoming prisoner.
Officials have interviewed a number of prisoners at the jail, including those who were booked on or before the discovery of the hidden cache, but none admitted to knowing anything about it. They’re also still unsure whether the funds are connected to any recent robberies or thefts.
The city’s attorney is researching what should be done with the money if no one comes forward with information. Here’s a thought — fix the giant hole left in the bathroom.
