Can’t think of what to give your boss or co-workers this holiday season? Planned Parenthood has an option you probably don’t want to consider.
Depending on whom you ask, gift cards can either be a thoughtful present, or a sign that you have no clue what to buy someone. But the latest offering from Planned Parenthood is sure to raise a few eyebrows.
For the first time, the organization is offering gift certificates that can be cashed in for a variety of products or health services. A big increase in visits and calls from newly unemployed or uninsured patients prompted the company to go with the unusual yet practical idea.
Chrystal Struben-Hall, VP of Planned Parenthood of Indiana, says: “People are making really tough decisions about putting gas in their car and food on their table, so we know that many women especially put health care at the bottom of their list to do so.”
The gift cards come in $25 increments, and can be used for everything from birth control medication to a variety of exams.
“It’s for whatever people feel they need the services for most,” said Struben-Hall.
