How long would it take you to notice you were missing thirty grand? What if it disappeared a quarter at a time?
New Jersey prosecutors have caught a civilian employee of the Irvington police department filching more than $30,000 from the city’s bank account.
Rodney Dennis, a 52-year-old parking enforcement office, was in charge of collecting funds from city parking meters and depositing them into a police account. However, over the course of a year, he began making small deposits into a personal bank account.
Prosecutors says a bank investigator eventually became suspicious since the uniformed employee was making personal deposits consisting entirely of coins.
And it only took a year to put two and two together. Someone’s due for a raise.
