Motivation gone really wrong: Was waterboarding not a good choice?

A note to CFOs, finance pros, managers, and anyone looking for a way to boost morale while keeping their company out of a costly legal battle: Don’t call motivational company Prosper.

In the latest “Seemed like a good idea at the time” lawsuit, the motivational coaching company Prosper is catching severe flack for allegedly waterboarding an employee.

Yes, waterboarding. Yes, the torturing method which induces the feeling of drowning. Yes, the one that the Justice Department and CIA admitted to using on Al-Qaida suspects.

Prosper performed the “demonstration” in front of the employee’s sales team to motivate them to work as hard at their jobs as this poor employee had to work to breathe.

In defense of Prosper’s poor choice of activities, waterboarding does seem slightly better than their less-popular second option – “Russian Roulette Wednesday!”
