For hire: Financial security tester. Note: If company fails test, funds may go missing permanently.

After a Swedish man walked into an unlocked safe in Swedbank and left the building with $3,350, he later told police he was testing the bank’s security systems.

Initially, the suspect walked out of the bank, cash in hand, without incident. The following morning, bank employees found the money, along with a note saying: “I am sorry that I took the money. I feel very ashamed.”

Security tapes and fingerprints on the money and note helped Swedish authorities apprehend the man. At first, he denied the crime, but later admitted to stealing and returning the money. But his explanation differed from the handwritten note. Instead of robbing the bank and suffering from a guilty conscience, the man claimed he saw the unlocked safe and felt a sudden impulse to test the bank’s security measures.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of theft.
